We are discussing how to have a successful interview. One of the main
points of having an interview is so that you can put your skills and
your experience in front of a potential employer. You want to be
prepared, you want to know your, you want to know the facts and details
of the position of the company, and you want to be obviously very
familiar with your own past work experience. This is the time where you
let them know why you want the job, why you're a great fit for the job,
why you think their company's great, why this position is everything
you've ever wanted, and how it's going to propel you into the next phase
of your career. You want to go over all of this, as well as any
relevance in your work history. Anything you've done, that is a perfect
match for this job. This is your time to sell yourself. It is
crucial. Phil, I guess I just want to understand why you're interested
in our company, and in this position. I have a buddy who works here
and he said this place is awesome. Okay, so, and what did he tell you
was awesome? He just said it was great. Okay. Well, what can you tell
me about yourself that? Help me understand why you're a great fit for
the job. Because I'm totally awsome. Awesome, okay. Alright, well,
what's so awesome about you? I do awesome work. I bet that made your
past employers proud. Uh huh. You definitely don't want to go with
that answer. Do not go with one word answers. They're giving you an
open-ended discussion. Take advantage of it. You obviously don't want
to come off as too arrogant, but let them know what your skills are.
Let them know why you're interested. Your enthusiasm is going to create
a sense of urgency on the employer's side, and they're not going to
want to let you go.
